Do you remember the days when your cellular phone was the size of a brick, literally? With those huge antenna’s that you either had to pull all the way up to get any reception, or alternatively there were those thick long inflexible ones?
Let’s not even start talking about the weight of those units, nor the ½ inch displays that if you didn’t normally wear glasses, you would need to anyway just to see the screen!
Those were the days when perhaps the most important feature on the phone was the number of phone numbers you could store or maybe if it had more than two ringtones available to select from was considered rather special.
Things have changed rapidly and it’s hard to believe that those days of the ever popular Nokia 5110 and the ‘snake’ game which entertained us for hours back in the late 90′s is only around 15 years back during which I also had my lovebirds for sale. Yes, things have changed significantly since then.
Unlike now where cool features allow us to boast amongst friends(speaking of which, I recommend you check out Lawn Mowing Perth for some top deals) , those days merely having a cell phone granted us with bragging rights! Times have changed so much that many people have done away with home landlines and reverted to only using their cell phones to make and receive any form of calls amongst a whole set of other tasks too off course.
The other significant change that has happened in the last 15 years is the expectation of what our cell phones will be able to do. Back then, making and receiving calls with the ability to hear and be heard was a great bonus.
Screens were small, flip phones were trendy and for some of the advanced phones a few years later, the availability to put calendar notes had the thick work diary shaking at the thought of early retirement.
Fast forward and cell phones have become to a lot of people, essential tools to help them get through the day. From parents who can keep track of their kids to business people who rely heavily on their phone to advise them of their next meeting, checking emails and the ability to jump on the internet on the move to keep them informed.
Let’s not forget the other wide range of users who require it to take photo/video’s on the fly, play music and entertain them whilst they wait for the next event. For a lot of people now, leaving home without your cell can make them feel anxious and incomplete.
As a result, there are a large volume of manufacturers rushing into the market with various models that target different niches. For us, it means that such a supply of phone types meaning we are certainly not short of options or latest technological advances.
In fact, deciding to upgrade your existing phone of a few years old can sometimes be a little overwhelming with the array of choices out there. If you’re not an impulsive buyer, it can take a few days just to get your head around what are currently available, features, models and prices.
But, if you thought it was just about the phone when considering your options, think again! There is also steep competition between the different operating system software that phones are using. For example, operating systems such as Windows mobile, Android, Iphone, Palm, Blackberry, Symbian and more. Each offer a different user experience and each has its own plethora of ‘add on’ software pieces for work, rest or play. Confused yet?
To help you start to shortlist, it’s a good idea to either have a little knowledge of what’s in the market today, or at the very least, you will want to know what it is you are after in a phone. Is it primarily to make the occasional call or is it something you can plug you headphones into and workout to your favourite songs at the gym? Will you want to use it for work? What sort of things can it help out with?
The other thing to factor into the equation is how much you typically use the phone and therefore what sort of monthly expenditure you would be willing to spend.
You may wish to check the website for different carriers in your area as quite often they can run limited deals for their online customers that offer a lower monthly plan and/or a great deal for a plan with a handset combined.
By the way, before I continue, I recommend you check out Crash Repairs Adelaide if you’re looking for a place that shortlists panel beaters over there. My friend found it useful. Anyway, back to phones!
This might help you choose quickly especially if you don’t want to spend too much time researching current technology and options.
